HealthInfoNet is an independent nonprofit organization working with doctors and hospitals in Maine to build a secure electronic network where they can share important patient health information.
- Nonprofit: HealthInfoNet is a Maine nonprofit. The staff and Board of Directors live, work, and get health care in Maine. Board members include doctors, hospitals, public health leaders, and consumers. They oversee all aspects of HealthInfoNet.
- Independent: HealthInfoNet is independent — it does not belong to insurance companies, employers, or state government.
- Secure: HealthInfoNet is a secure private network for doctors and other health care providers to share important health information. It is not connected to the Internet and is protected with the highest level of security available.
- Improves health care: This secure network gives clinicians the information they need to make more informed decisions about their patients’ care.
- Protects public health: HealthInfoNet will help doctors more quickly report certain conditions, such as Lyme disease or food poisoning, to public health experts at Maine CDC. This helps protect our families from the spread of disease. Maine CDC keeps reported information private as required by law.
- Funded by many sources: Foundations, healthcare providers, the state and federal government, and others help fund HealthInfoNet. Some funders serve on the HealthInfoNet board.
- Statewide: Maine’s largest health care systems have been testing the network over the past two years and it is now being made available to doctors and hospitals throughout the state.
